Jetter Parts, Nozzles & Accessories: The Complete Guide to Getting More From Your Water Jetter

A quality water jetter is only as effective as the equipment attached to it.

The right jetter parts, nozzles and accessories can completely change how efficiently a plumber clears a blockage, navigates difficult pipework, removes roots, cleans grease and silt, or maintains their equipment between jobs.

At Assassin Jetters, we don't believe in simply selling a water jetter and sending you on your way. We supply a comprehensive range of water jetter parts, drain cleaning nozzles, jetting hoses, hose reels, fittings, quick releases, safety equipment and accessories, while also providing servicing, repairs and technical support from our Seven Hills workshop in Western Sydney.

As Georgina Taylor, Business Leader at Assassin Jetters, explains:

"The jetter itself is only one part of the equation. Your hose, nozzle and setup all need to work together. The right combination can make a massive difference to how effectively the machine performs in the drain."

Whether you're replacing a worn fitting, building a new jetter setup or looking for a better nozzle for a particular blockage, this guide explains what you need to know about choosing jetter parts, nozzles and accessories.

Choosing the Right Water Jetter Nozzle

Of all the accessories fitted to a water jetter, the nozzle is arguably one of the most important.

Simply fitting a more expensive nozzle doesn't automatically give you better results.

The nozzle needs to suit:

  • Your jetter's pressure

  • Your jetter's flow rate

  • Hose diameter

  • Hose length

  • Pipe diameter

  • Type of blockage

  • Pipe configuration

  • Required pulling force

  • Cleaning application

Assassin Jetters stocks an extensive range of Mustang Nozzles, including different jet configurations, sizes and connection types.

Georgina explains:

"One of the biggest mistakes we see is people assuming every nozzle will perform the same on every jetter. It won't. A nozzle needs to be correctly matched to the pressure and litres per minute of the machine you're actually running."

This is particularly important when moving between different jetter sizes.

A nozzle set up for a 10 LPM machine is not necessarily going to be suitable for a 21 LPM or 25 LPM jetter. Likewise, a nozzle designed for your main reel may not be the correct choice for a smaller mini-reel hose.

Correct nozzle sizing helps ensure the available water flow is being used effectively rather than simply chasing maximum pressure.

Different Jetter Nozzles Have Different Jobs

There is no single "best jetter nozzle".

The better question is:

What nozzle is best for the blockage you're trying to clear?

Different nozzle configurations are designed to perform very different jobs.

Penetrating Nozzles

Penetrating nozzles are designed to attack a blockage ahead of the nozzle.

They commonly incorporate a forward-facing jet that helps break through obstructions while rear jets provide propulsion and assist with cleaning the pipe.

They're useful when you need to punch through a blockage and establish an opening.

Assassin Jetters stocks options including Mustang Bulldog penetrating nozzles in its nozzle range.

Invading Nozzles

Invading nozzles combine forward penetration with rearward jetting.

They're a versatile option for plumbers who regularly encounter general drain blockages and want a nozzle capable of progressing through the line while cleaning behind itself.

Options in the Mustang range include Bandit and Beaver invading nozzles, among others.

Thruster Nozzles

Sometimes the priority isn't cutting forward – it's getting the hose further into the drain.

Thruster nozzles use rearward jets to generate pulling force.

They're particularly useful where additional propulsion is required to carry the hose through the pipe.

Root-Cutting Nozzles

Tree roots require a different approach again.

Root-cutting nozzles concentrate water energy to cut and remove root intrusion rather than simply pushing through it.

For example, the Mustang LaserJet available through Assassin Jetters is designed for root cutting and can also be configured for applications including cutting timber or sandstone and removing graffiti.

"We always ask what you're actually trying to clear before recommending a nozzle. Roots, grease, silt and a general blockage aren't the same problem, so you shouldn't expect one nozzle to be perfect for every situation."
— Georgina Taylor, Business Leader, Assassin Jetters

Why Flow Rate Matters When Selecting a Jetter Nozzle

Water jetters are commonly advertised according to PSI, but flow rate – litres per minute – is equally important when selecting your nozzle and hose combination.

Two machines operating at similar pressures can behave differently if one delivers considerably more water.

The nozzle's orifice configuration determines how that available flow is distributed.

This affects:

  • Nozzle thrust

  • Cleaning power

  • Pressure at the nozzle

  • Ability to move debris

  • Hose performance

  • Overall jetting efficiency

That's why Assassin Jetters asks customers to identify the machine they're using when nozzle sizing is important. For some specialist nozzles, the company's own product instructions specifically ask customers to provide their jetter's pressure and flow when ordering.

If you're uncertain, don't guess the nozzle size. Contact Assassin Jetters with your jetter's PSI, LPM and hose size and our team can help determine the appropriate option.

1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16" or 3/8" Jetter Hose?

Choosing your jetting hose is another important part of building the right setup.

Smaller, more flexible hoses can provide excellent access through tighter pipework, while larger hoses can support the higher flows required by more powerful jetters.

Common hose sizes used across professional jetting setups include:

1/8" hose – extremely flexible and useful for small lines and tight applications.

3/16" hose – commonly used as a flexible mini-reel hose on smaller and mid-sized applications.

1/4" hose – an extremely useful general-purpose jetting hose and a common mini-reel size on higher-flow machines.

5/16" hose – well suited to higher-flow main jetting applications where flexibility and flow capacity need to be balanced.

3/8" hose – suited to higher-flow jetters and applications where greater water volume needs to be delivered.

The key is matching the hose to the machine, nozzle and intended job rather than choosing purely by diameter.

Main Reel vs Mini Reel: Why Professional Jetters Often Have Both

A main reel and mini reel give plumbers greater flexibility when moving between different drain sizes.

Your main reel provides the larger hose required for demanding jetting applications, while a mini reel gives you a smaller and more manoeuvrable hose for tighter lines.

This is why many professional Water Jetters are configured with multiple hose options.

"Having the biggest hose isn't always the answer. Sometimes the smaller, more flexible hose is exactly what gets you through the drain. A good setup gives the operator options rather than forcing them to use the same hose and nozzle for every job."
— Georgina Taylor

Jetter Nozzle Boxes: Building a Proper Drain-Cleaning Toolkit

Professional plumbers rarely encounter exactly the same blockage twice.

That's where a jetter nozzle box becomes valuable.

Instead of relying on one general-purpose nozzle, a nozzle kit gives the operator different tools depending on what's found inside the pipe.

For example, Assassin Jetters' Mustang 3/8" nozzle box combines multiple nozzle types for higher-flow jetters and main-reel applications, along with a quick-release coupler and tip cleaner.

A well-equipped nozzle box may give you options for:

  • Penetrating blockages

  • Pulling hose

  • General drain cleaning

  • Root intrusion

  • Side-wall cleaning

  • Larger pipes

  • Tight pipework

Think of your nozzle box the same way you think about your toolbox.

You wouldn't expect one spanner to complete every plumbing job.

Your nozzles shouldn't be any different.

Quick-Release Jetter Nozzles & Fittings

Changing nozzles in the field needs to be fast, secure and reliable.

Quick-release systems allow plumbers to change between compatible nozzles without repeatedly threading fittings on and off the hose.

Assassin Jetters supplies both stainless steel and brass quick-release components, along with replacement couplers and associated fittings.

The Mustang range also includes its Silt Proof Quick Release coupling, designed to help prevent sand and silt accumulating behind the coupling sheath.

For plumbers regularly swapping between penetrating, invading, thruster and specialist nozzles throughout the day, a good quick-release system can make the entire jetting process easier.

Don't Forget the Small Jetter Parts

A jetter contains plenty of comparatively inexpensive components that can still stop the machine from working properly when they fail.

Assassin Jetters carries a broad selection of Jetter Spare Parts, including:

  • Pressure gauges

  • Unloader valves

  • Quick releases

  • Hose connectors

  • Swage tails

  • Nozzle extenders

  • Hose reel swivels

  • Ball valves

  • Gauge protection components

  • Clamps and fittings

Our current spare-parts catalogue includes dozens of components for maintaining and repairing professional jetting equipment.

Keeping common wear items and fittings available in your vehicle can also help prevent a relatively minor problem from costing you an entire day's work.

Jetter Hose Repairs & Replacement Fittings

Jetting hose works hard.

It is repeatedly dragged through drains, around bends, across concrete and through contaminated environments while operating under extremely high pressure.

Hose should therefore be regularly checked for signs of:

  • Abrasion

  • Cuts

  • Exposed reinforcement

  • Damaged swages

  • Kinks

  • Damaged fittings

  • Excessive wear

  • Leakage

Assassin Jetters also performs hose repairs from our Seven Hills workshop, including repairs that can often be completed while customers wait.

If the hose itself is no longer safe or serviceable, replacement is the correct option.

High-pressure water should always be treated seriously. Operators should follow the applicable manufacturer's instructions, workplace procedures and Australian safety requirements when operating or maintaining high-pressure water jetting equipment.

Maintaining Your Jetter Nozzles

A good nozzle can last a long time when properly maintained.

However, debris passing through the water system can partially obstruct small nozzle orifices.

A blocked or damaged jet can alter the spray pattern and reduce nozzle performance.

Assassin Jetters recommends checking nozzles for wear and using an appropriate nozzle tip cleaner for routine cleaning. Some turbine-style nozzles require further disassembly, inspection and potentially replacement internal components.

The Assassin Jetters range includes dedicated nozzle tip cleaners as well as nozzle storage solutions designed to keep equipment organised and protected.

Never simply assume poor jetting performance means the machine itself has failed.

The problem may be downstream.

"If a jetter suddenly doesn't feel like it's performing properly, we don't only look at the engine and pump. We look at the whole system – the hose, fittings, nozzle, pressure and flow. Sometimes a small issue at the end of the hose can completely change how the machine feels."
— Georgina Taylor

Accessories That Make Water Jetting Easier

Not every accessory increases PSI or flow.

Some of the best accessories simply make the equipment safer, easier to operate and easier to look after.

Depending on your setup, useful upgrades can include:

Hose Roller Guides

A roller guide helps protect jetting hose when feeding it around an edge or into an access point.

Reducing unnecessary abrasion can help protect one of the hardest-working components on your jetter.

Hose Reels

Good hose management makes a major difference when you're setting up and packing down repeatedly throughout the day.

Explore our range of Hose Reels for main hose, mini-reel and equipment storage applications.

Nozzle Extenders

Nozzle extenders can alter how the nozzle navigates the pipe and provide additional reach for particular applications.

Assassin Jetters currently stocks stainless-steel nozzle extension options within its accessories and spare-parts ranges.

Hand Lances

A water jetter doesn't have to be limited to drain cleaning.

With the appropriate pressure washing equipment, compatible machines can also be used for cleaning applications.

Assassin Jetters stocks hand lances in multiple lengths as part of its Jetter Accessories range.

Nozzle Storage

Quality nozzles shouldn't spend their lives rolling around the bottom of a toolbox.

Dedicated nozzle boxes and racks help protect your equipment while keeping different nozzle options organised and accessible.

Genuine Support Matters as Much as the Part

Ordering a fitting online is easy.

Working out why the original fitting failed, whether the replacement is correctly rated, and whether another issue caused the failure requires experience.

That's where buying from a specialist jetter supplier makes a difference.

Assassin Jetters operates a showroom and service centre at Seven Hills in Western Sydney, supplying equipment Australia-wide while providing workshop support for servicing, repairs, parts and technical advice.

If you don't know exactly what part you need, bring the component or machine into our workshop or contact our team with:

  • Machine make and model

  • Engine model

  • Pump model

  • Jetter PSI and LPM

  • Hose diameter

  • Photos of the component

  • Details of the problem

That information can make identifying the correct component considerably easier.

When Should Jetter Parts Be Replaced?

Not every component has a fixed replacement interval.

Instead, professional operators should routinely inspect their equipment.

Pay particular attention to components exposed to pressure, movement and abrasion.

These include:

  • High-pressure hose

  • Hose swages

  • Quick-release fittings

  • Nozzles

  • Reel swivels

  • Pressure gauges

  • Ball valves

  • Trigger guns

  • Connections

Nozzles should also be inspected for wear because changes to the orifices can affect performance.

Assassin Jetters recommends the first service on a new jetter at 50 operating hours, followed by at least annual servicing, with more frequent servicing appropriate for machines doing substantial daily work.

You can learn more about maintaining your equipment through our Frequently Asked Questions.

Jetter Safety: Never Compromise on High-Pressure Equipment

Professional water jetters produce enough pressure to cause serious injury.

Hoses, fittings, couplings, guns, valves and other pressure-containing components must therefore be suitable for the equipment they're being used with.

Never substitute an unsuitable low-pressure fitting simply because the thread happens to fit.

Operators should always follow relevant Australian workplace safety requirements and manufacturer instructions.

It's also important to understand that high-pressure water must never be used on asbestos-containing materials. SafeWork NSW specifically identifies high-pressure water spray and jets among equipment that must not be used on asbestos or asbestos-containing material.

For NSW workplace safety guidance, visit SafeWork NSW.

Can Assassin Jetters Help Me Choose the Right Nozzle?

Absolutely.

You don't need to know a nozzle part number before contacting us.

Tell us:

What jetter are you running?
What PSI and LPM does it produce?
What hose are you using?
What size drains are you working in?
What type of blockage are you trying to clear?

From there, we can help narrow down the most appropriate options.

This is particularly valuable if you're moving to a higher-flow jetter or building a new nozzle collection.

"I'd rather a customer call us and ask before buying than end up with a nozzle that doesn't suit their machine. Tell us what jetter you've got, what hose you're running and what you're trying to achieve, and we can point you in the right direction."
— Georgina Taylor
